Summer Ripening: Strengthen Your Inner Fire!
Today I share with you some insight to open and bring balance to the third Chakra, also known as Manipura, or Solar Plexus Chakra.
I thought this would be a great time to bring our attention to this energy center, as this week we talked a lot about decision-making and setting goals. I also wanted to write about this center today as it goes well with the flow of now - of summer ripening, the time of manifestation and reaching for our potential.
The solar plexus chakra is located just behind the naval region below the rib cage. It is the center of our willpower, our inner fire - the house of our ego. It is a guide through our life by creating a strong sense of self, governing self-esteem and the power of transformation.
In Chinese medicine, everything is connected back to the seasons:
"Summer is the time when Yang is at its strongest and everything grows vigorously. At this time the element that is most powerful is fire. Fire burns giving heat, light and life. The source of all fire in the world is the sun." -Energy Arts
And it may get confusing to mix the Vedic teachings with Taoist or Chinese Philosophy because some things are represented differently (in Chinese philosophy, the heart is closely associated with summer; with ayurveda, the solar plexus is associated with fire, sun), but this is just some bits of insight to bring together and to ponder.
A balanced Solar Plexus (Too much or too little?):
When this energy center is opened and balanced, it allows us to meet challenges and move forward in our lives. It brings a sense of trust and acceptance in our own decisions, giving us the power to choose, to be confident with our choices. It allows us to take an outgoing and social attitude to the world. It helps us to let go of judgement (of ourselves and others), and to be less critical and more accepting.
When the solar plexus is overactive, we may tend to get a bit judgemental, critical, angry, conceited, or aggressive. "A person with a hyperactive Solar plexus Chakra tends to bully others. S/he has the attitude of ‘I am always right’ and tends to turn a deaf ear to advice given by others." (Color meanings)
An underactive solar plexus may be that we find ourselves with low self-esteem, always seeking the approval of others. We may find it hard to trust ourselves, and always be worried about what others think of us and our decisions.
An imbalance in the Chakra can also lead to physical imbalances/symptoms. The most common are imbalances that stem from the digestive system: constipation (underactive solar plexus), disorders of the bowel, anus, large intestine, the lower body (legs, buttocks, etc). It can also relate to psychological imbalances such as compulsive or obsessive behavior, excessive anger, or addictive personalities.
Balancing the Solar Plexus:
Manipura is associated with the color yellow, so when seeking more strength and balance from this energy, think yellow: meditate on the color, wear yellow, eat yellow foods, etc. Maybe if you're too much fire, eat less spicy food and vice versa. Find time to bask under the sun, replenishing and inviting the power of the sun to active this chakra (if it's too much, take a nice, cool day in). Dance! Indulge in energetic activities. I love to use my lemon essential oil when meditating to boost this center, and practice yoga focusing lots on the core.
This has been a theme (and energy) that has been showing up for me in many forms these past few days, so I see that as a reflection of something to work on as well. I have noticed that I go in roller coasters with this energy - some weeks I will have the utmost confidence, maybe sometimes an overload where I filter and refuse to listen to anyone's advice or suggestions. Some days I will look to my partner or friends to boost my self-esteem.. It is a wild dance and I think it always will be, really. This is my process. And everyday I just show up and try to be the best version of myself, try to balance out all the feels. And now that I have been feeling and seeing things in color, I recognize what I need to work more (or less) on in those times. Again, this is just a perspective - I am not trying to make you also see things in this way, or telling you that this is the only way to heal.
With all of this in mind, enjoy this time of sun and heat! Notice how the seasons may be affecting your energy and make adjustments to your day-to-day accordingly. Maybe some days you take it easier than others - if the external heat of the season is taking too much, rest. If it is fueling your inner fire, go with it!
This is the time of growth, manifestation, abundance.
Honor your process - no judgement, no expectations.
Happy Friday fam, journey well!! xo
