I hope that by exchanging interests, insights, and all the feels, we can encourage each other to find our truths; to live what we love and follow our hearts to make ways for a more conscious, loving world.

Vishuddha (Throat) Chakra

Vishuddha (Throat) Chakra

Mantra For Balancing the Center of Expression

From MindBodyGreen:

  • Physical imbalances include thyroid issues, sore throats, laryngitis, TMJ, ear infections, ulcers, any facial problems (chin, cheek, lips, tongue problems) neck and shoulder pain.
  • Emotional imbalances include issues of self-expression through communication, both spoken or written. Fear of no power or choice. No willpower or being out of control.
  • When this chakra is balanced, we have free flowing of words, expression, communication. We are honest and truthful yet firm. We are good listeners.
  • The lesson of this chakra is to speak up and let your voice be heard.

Do you ever feel a lump in your throat because you held in something that you wanted to say? That you held in something you know you should've said? Do you feel like you aren't expressing yourself and your creativity fully, because of fear of rejection or judgement?

The Vishuddha Chakra is located at the throat, associated with communication, self-expression, creativity, free will, and truth. Although I am able to express myself through this blog and my writing, this is actually the chakra center that I feel most imbalances come from. I write this one for today because for the past week I've been fighting a gnarly cough and ear infection. Also with the changing of the seasons, many of us may find ourselves with a sore throat or cold, so this would be a great mantra to carry through these times.

When I think back to my younger years, I can remember I used to fight strep throat at least once or twice a year, always with some issues in the throat. In ancient medicine and philosophy, they say that physical imbalances manifest from underlying emotional imbalances. And in my case struggling with throat (and ear) problems for years, I believe this to be true. Growing up with an American lifestyle and perspective in a Japanese household, I found it hard to express myself because 1) language barrier between my parents and I, 2) cultural differences of expression and acceptance, 3) self-created lies and excuses to get around my parents. I carried this for a long time, and I struggle with some of this stuff to this day - of being aloof, unclear, and shy of expressing my truth.

This fifth chakra is also the bridge between the intuition of sixth chakra and radical self-acceptance of the fourth chakra (Yoganonymous) - it is the crossover between the physical and spiritual world, between the first four chakras (root, sacral, solar plexus, heart) and those higher of spirit (third eye, crown). "The energy of this chakra allows you to seek knowledge that is true, beyond limitations of time and space, beyond cultural and family conditioning" (Chakra Anatomy). Here's to the process!!

As I read through my journal, I notice that most of my contemplation and elucidations are of fear of self-expression and of my potentiality. I see my process and understand that it is an ongoing practice. I share this affirmation with you to bring awareness to this space. This is one that I hold close to me, to progress on the journey of my soul's evolution and to seek clarity.

"I speak freely and with confidence. It is now safe for me to express my feelings and to create the life I desire. Everything I do is an expression of love."

Think of the throat chakra as a conversation you’re having from you to you and you to everyone else, and you to universal mind. And this goes both ways, of speaking and of listening. As a communication center, it not only allows you to express who you are and what you stand for, but also allows you to listen deeply to another. It's all a work of balance.

Thank you for this space. Thank you for letting me find my expression and my voice.

And on we go~ you are infinite and we are all right where we need to be

Blessings, one love! xx
